Business Events Geelong brought 24 of the region's best meetings venues and suppliers to CBD Melbourne in celebration of their National MEA Award win for best Regional Destination Marketing Organisation.

The Hon Prime Minister, Julia Gillard (as played by Paul McCarthy), officiated proceeding and announced why Geelong and the Great Ocean Road is the best business events destination in Australia.

The ‘Great Ocean Road.show’ cocktail-style event took place at Zinc in Federation Square on Thursday, 14 July. More than 90 meeting planners and PCOs attended the event.

The Great Ocean Road business events industry contributed to an amazing total prize pool valued at in excess of $12,000!

Convention Bureau Manager, Andrew Hiebl, expressed that “Melbourne-based in-house meeting planners and PCOs were provided with the perfect opportunity to experience all that Geelong and the Great Ocean Road has to offer in a relaxed environment.”

Furthermore, invited guests had the opportunity to:

  • WIN a vast array of fantastic prizes;
  • ENJOY entertainment by Jimi Hocking (presented by The Blues Train); and
  • TASTE our local wines by Oakdene Vineyards and Bellbrae Estate.

Exhibitors and visitors were surveyed after the show, most suggesting that the Great Ocean Road.show should be an annual event. Nearly a third of visitors said they had placed business with exhibitors or requested a proposal on the night or since the event.

“On the Great Ocean Road, we are renowned for being friendly and personable, and at the end of the day, it is the people that make your business event a success. This event has connected the people that run our professional products and services with conference organisers planning their future meetings.” Hiebl said.
