Crowne Plaza Torquay’s sustainability initiatives:
Waste
- Implementation of recycling stations throughout the hotel to reduce paper, glass and plastic waste.
- Introduction of eco-friendly amenities made from biodegradable Plastarch.
- Redistribution of partly-used guest amenities to homeless shelters, decreasing landfi ll from rooms by 20%.
- A waste pulping system has been installed to reduce landfill, by creating a dry powder by-product which is then used as fertilizer in local farms.
Water
- A water wise eco-friendly landscaped garden with an emphasis on native Australian plants utilises a water irrigation system run strictly from 80,000 litre rain water storage tanks.
- Guests are encouraged to ‘think green’ with in-room signage promoting reuse of towels and linen.
- Installation of dual fl ush toilets,low flow showerheads, low flow faucets and water-saving dishwashers.
Energy
- Energy usage has been dramatically reduced with the installation of efficient lighting in all rooms, restaurants, conference facilities, and public areas.
Environmental Committee
- The hotels in-house Environmental Committee addresses long and short term environmental issues aiming towards the best possible outcome in carbon footprint reduction for the property.
Green Globe
- The Green Globe Benchmarking process is a highly recognised and respected performance evaluation process within the travel and tourism industry. Crowne Plaza Torquay is an active participant set on making operational improvements towards a greener and more sustainable future
