Buyers from Sydney, Wollongong, Tasmania and Melbourne were wowed by the Mercure Geelong in May during a familiarisation of the region. Business Events Geelong were proud partners of the event.
Convention Bureau Coordinator, Andrew Hiebl suggested that “once experienced, the Geelong & Great Ocean Road become understood as an amazing business events destination. The great itinerary put together by the team at Mercure Geelong only emphasised this theory.”
The famil started with a limo pick up from both Melbourne Airport and Avalon Airports. Within 20 minutes of landing at Avalon, the group arrived at the Mercure Geelong with morning tea waiting by the pool.
Day one included an inspection of the Ford Discovery Centre – an amazing venue to host any cocktail party, product launch or gala dinner for up to 300 delegates in the unique and interactive setting of automotive history and boutique cars. The home of the Geelong Cats, Skilled Stadium, was also visited, along with the 1,500 seat theatre, Costa Hall, at Deakin University’s Waterfront Campus.
A boat cruise from the new Queenscliff Marina provided fresh local seafood which was enjoyed for lunch with a chilled Sauvignon Blanc or two. The cruise also included a viewing of the local seal colony.
All were treated to the splendors of the one hat rated Pettavel Winery & Restaurant for dinner, closely followed by karaoke and disco lights in the limo on the return trip.
Day two commenced with an Over the Edge team building session on the Geelong Waterfront and backed up by a tasty BBQ back at the hotel cooked by none other than the hotel General Manager, Andrew Hills.
