Meet Geelong 2021 Virtual Roadshow a massive success

Business Events Geelong brought together industry and buyers yesterday (10/11/2021) via an interactive virtual roadshow hosted on the Remo platform.

More than fifty qualified event organisers from all over Australia and abroad attended the Meet Geelong Virtual Roadshow, which included six 10 minute one-on-one meetings with industry, a presentation of Business Events Geelong’s all-new destination video hosted by Nicky Buckley, and a live gin tasting led by Anther Distillery spirit maker Dervilla McGowan.

In the lead up to the event, attendees received a mystery box filled with goodies including three different types of Anther Distillery gin, tonic and a tasting glass.

Business Events Geelong Convention Bureau Manager Mark Day called the virtual event a massive success.

“With State Borders opening up by the end of the year, we thought it was the perfect time to reconnect the industry with buyers in a format which was interactive, engaging and most importantly…fun!”

Feedback for attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, Mr Day said, and he is positive that the event will be back again next year.

Tegan Clingan, Senior Coordinator Sales and Events at Waurn Ponds Estate, attended the event as an exhibitor. She said the event went smoothly and she was delighted to meet a range of event organisers looking to hold events of all sizes in the region; from boardroom meetings through to large team-building events.

“After a difficult year, it was exciting and reassuring to hear that there is still a big demand for in-person events. They want to bring teams and people back together. Our industry has been hit hard by the pandemic—but we will bounce back.”

Lily Yeo, who attended the Virtual Roadshow as a buyer, said: “It was an amazing event. Time went by so quickly and in that short two hours, I’ve gathered a good overview of the region.”

Sandra Doyle, another buyer who attended the event, said: “The virtual concept worked well and the gin tasting was great. I’m heading down to Geelong as soon as I can!”

All attendees who successfully completed all their meetings received a $30 Scotchman’s Hill voucher as well as an Anther Distillery gin tasting kit delivered to their door. There were also a number of fantastic door prizes on offer including overnight stays, spa treatments, dinner vouchers and more.

Buyers both domestically and internationally met with exhibitors including Waurn Ponds Estate, Geelong Arts Centre, The Rydges Geelong, Novotel Geelong, Highermark, Werribee Open Range Zoo, Holiday Inn Werribee, Lancemore Mansion Hotel at Werribee Park, R Hotel and 1915.
