Swan Bay Rose takes gold at Victorian Wine Show Awards

Scotchmans Hill Swan Bay Rosé 2018 has won a gold medal and trophy for best in show Rosé at the Victorian Wine Show Awards.

Following on from a successful 2017 Swan Bay Pinot Rosé vintage which sold out in six weeks, the 2018 has been recognised for its more savoury palette among more than 30 other Rosé brands in its class.

The Victorian Wine Show, which has been running for over 40 years, began in Seymour to showcase the best of Victorian wines. Each year up to 750 wines are represented from all Victorian regions.

Rosé is continuing to be recognised as a serious wine category. Wineries are making wine specifically for Rosé and using far greater quality fruit, as well as employing different techniques and varieties.

Based on the Bellarine Peninsula, Scotchmans Hill uses Pinot Noir grapes, a varietal that the region naturally favours. The winery is renowned for their Pinot Noir which thrives in the Bellarine Peninsula’s cool climate and the volcanic soil of Scotchmans Hill.

Many rosés are produced with a similar technique to white wine. Scotchmans Hill takes a more specific approach to rosé winemaking by selecting fruit with pale and dry qualities and using a wild fermentation technique that is continued in a 100% barrel ferment in 5 year old French Oak.

Recently, some of Melbourne’s top buyers were treated to Scotchman Hills wines at our Progressive Lunch.

The product is sold at a range of major retailer and independent outlets along the Eastern Seaboard of Australia and will be featured at events like the Queenscliff Music Festival this summer.
