Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre Reaches Halfway Milestone

Exciting progress is underway at the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre, with the project reaching its halfway mark. A significant milestone has been celebrated with the installation of the final steel truss for the Exhibition Hall, bringing the venue one step closer to its highly anticipated 2026 opening.

A Transformative Venue for Geelong

Set to redefine Geelong’s waterfront, Nyaal Banyul is a purpose-built convention and event centre that will inspire connection and celebrate the community. The state-of-the-art venue will offer world-class spaces designed for conferences, exhibitions, concerts, gala dinners, and more, creating a versatile hub for both local and international events. The centre will include a 1,000-seat theatre, two large exhibition spaces, food outlets, a public plaza, and the largest hotel in Geelong—the 200-room Crowne Plaza.

With 300 workers already shaping this ambitious project and the workforce set to grow to 500 in the coming year, the centre is well on its way to becoming a game-changer for Geelong’s event and tourism landscape.

Boosting Geelong’s Economy and Community

Part of the $676.15 million Geelong City Deal, this transformative project is not just about creating a stunning venue. Nyaal Banyul is poised to drive economic growth, boost local tourism, and create employment opportunities for the region. The addition of such a versatile event space will position Geelong as a key player in the national and international events scene, attracting new business and boosting the city’s profile.

A Venue Rooted in Cultural Collaboration

Nyaal Banyul is also making history as Australia’s first convention centre co-designed with First Nations people. The venue’s name, meaning “Open your eyes to the hills,” was gifted by the Wadawurrung People, Traditional Owners of the land. This cultural collaboration ensures the centre embodies respect and honors the deep connection to the land, sea, and sky that the Wadawurrung People have cherished for generations.

The centre is set to open in July 2026, but event planners can start securing their bookings now for this truly unique and inspiring space.

Get Ahead of the Game

With event bookings now open, Nyaal Banyul is already capturing the attention of event planners and business leaders. Whether you’re organising a major conference, an intimate meeting, or a grand gala, this venue will provide a dynamic backdrop that reflects the vibrancy of Geelong.
